Standard delivery is free on Australian orders over $100 and costs a flat $10 below that. Parcels take 2 to 8 business days from dispatch, and the Victorian warehouse doesn't dispatch on weekends or Victorian public holidays.

On an example $90 order, the $10 fee adds about 11%. If you'd buy socks or another accessory later anyway, adding it now to pass $100 lets the saved fee cover part of it. Separate orders are each charged delivery and can't be combined later, so one bigger order beats two small ones.

Brooks Run Club is free to join and is where most of the lasting savings sit. You earn 10 metres per $1 on full-price items and 5 per $1 on sale or outlet items. Metres aren't spendable credit. Instead, your active metres from the past 12 months set your status.

• Blue members (0 to 4,999 metres) get 10% off full-price clothing, a $25 birthday voucher and presale and exclusive offers.

• Silver members (5,000 to 9,999 metres) keep those perks and add a $50 voucher on qualifying, one free return, free express shipping on orders over $250 and consideration as a shoe road tester.

• Gold members (10,000 metres or more) get 10% off sitewide, a $50 birthday voucher, a $100 voucher on qualifying, free returns and free express shipping on every order.

• Metres count only for purchases on the website made while logged in, are earned on what you pay after vouchers and discounts, and expire 12 months after the activity.

• Returned items take their metres back.

Status lasts 12 months from the day you reach it, and each upgrade adds a 500 metre boost. Reach Silver or Gold just before a big buying stretch, such as a new training block, and the shipping and returns perks cover the year of orders that follows.

For example, Blue members, steps 1 to 4 with one referral give 2,000 metres, and two reviews add 400, leaving 2,600. That's $260 of full-price spending, or $520 on sale items only. Purchase metres can sit as pending for up to 30 days, so leave a margin before counting on the upgrade.

Reaching Silver earns a $50 voucher, and reaching Gold earns a $100 voucher. Both are emailed to you, entered at checkout using the voucher number and PIN, and expire 3 months after you receive the email. Your tier's 10% member discount applies automatically, but only while you're logged in, and Brooks won't reissue a benefit missed by shopping logged out.

If a sale window falls within those 3 months, holding the voucher for it can pay off, as long as you use it before it lapses. It then replaces any Brooks Running discount code on that order.

Brooks can't apply a code once an order is finalised, so add it before entering payment details.

Contact Brooks before sending back faulty shoes, with proof of purchase and clear photos of the tongue, side and soles. A confirmed fault gets a refund (excluding shipping) or an exchange, and you'll be asked to dispose of the pair. Wear and tear from misuse, such as heat, chemicals, gravel or bitumen, machine washing or repairs, isn't covered.
