Limits to plan around
Member pricing only applies when the member is travelling.
Membership renews each year automatically unless you cancel in your account settings, and your benefits last until the paid term ends.
Each consecutive renewal adds 7,500 Société Points plus Status Credits if you're a Société member, but those bonus points expire after 6 months and the bonus resets if your membership lapses.
A free 28-day preview, when one is running, waives both fees, but booking a member-only offer during it ends the preview and triggers the annual fee.
Use the preview to price your next trip both ways. Membership pays off only if your member savings beat $249 a year beyond what a discount code would have saved, since member prices and codes don't combine. Tally them a few weeks before renewal and cancel if they fall short.

How the points work
Points land the day after checkout and expire 36 months after that trip's checkout. Welcome bonus points last only 3 months, so spend those first.
You need at least 1,000 points to redeem, and points can't pay deposits or payment fees.
You earn on the part of a booking you don't pay with points, including any part paid by gift card, and only on the site region you joined through.
Silver is the sweet spot. Reaching 200 Status Credits and ten nights in a membership year gets you lounge passes and a Travelshoot voucher worth having overseas, and since nights count only for the lead booker, keeping household bookings under one lead name gets you there faster. Offers tagged double points are worth checking first when two packages suit you equally. If your plans might fall through, decide before day 7, because a cash refund beats credit later. If only your dates might move, favour an offer with unlimited date changes and a cut-off closer to check-in.

Cruise deposits carry their own fees
Once a deposit is paid, changing the sailing date, name or cabin within the same category costs $50 per person.
Cancelling before the final payment date adds no fee on top, but cancelling after it costs $100 per person, and the cruise line's own fees apply either way.
On an example $3,000 package with a 50% deposit, the 4.95% fee on the $1,500 balance adds $74.25, and it isn't refunded even within the 7-day change-of-mind period. Pay in full when you can, use a deposit on a sale price only if the savings clearly beat the fee, and lock in cruise plans before the balance falls due.
Velocity Frequent Flyer members can redeem Velocity Points on eligible holidays tagged with the Velocity logo, including hotels, tours, cruises, Ultra Lux and Last Minute Escapes. You need at least 5,000 points per booking, the booking must be in your name, and Société Points can be used in the same transaction. Velocity Points are no longer earned on Luxury Escapes bookings, and redeemed points are forfeited unless you cancel within 7 days of booking for a full refund. It's a good use for a balance too small for a flight, on a trip you're sure about.
The retailer's own gift cards are sold at Woolworths, Big W and Costco as well as online, and you can combine as many as you like up to $1,500 per order. They cover packages but not airfares.
