SubHub puts subscriptions such as streaming services on your Optus bill and discounts them as a group. Two paid subscriptions earn 5% off and three or more earn 10%, counted at the end of each billing month, with free trials excluded. Only the account holder on an eligible postpaid mobile or home internet service can join, so Prepaid customers miss out.

As an example, three services costing $50 a month together drop by $5 a month, or $60 a year. That only pays off for services you'd keep anyway, since a fourth added just to stay in the top tier costs more than the 10% it protects. Each subscription renews on its own calendar day rather than your billing date, and dropping from three to two cuts the discount on the rest to 5%, so check your tier before cancelling one.

Some Optus plans also add a monthly SubHub credit, $10 a month for 12 months or $20 a month ongoing on selected mobile plans, and eligible home internet plans can include one. Your plan's Critical Information Summary confirms what applies.

The credit only covers what you spend in SubHub that month. Any leftover amount is forfeited, a month with no paid subscription earns nothing, and the credit can be lost if you cancel, move to an ineligible plan or recontract.

Move a subscription you already pay for elsewhere into SubHub so the credit replaces an existing bill, and pick services that add up to at least the credit. Cancelled subscriptions stay active until the end of their renewal period, so review the list before each renewal date.

Optus postpaid SIM and home internet plans run month to month with no lock-in contract, and SIM only mobile plans have no cancellation fee. You can change to another eligible plan once per payment cycle, so move down a size as soon as you notice unused data.

Most headline deals are introductory prices rather than an Optus discount code.

• The reduced fee lasts a set period, often 6 or 12 months, then reverts to the standard fee.

• Cancelling, changing to an ineligible plan or recontracting forfeits the discount.

• The 7 day and long expiry options add bonus data with every AutoRecharge.

• Unused data rolls over up to 200GB when AutoRecharge is on or you recharge before expiry.

AutoRecharge must be on at least a day before your recharge expires to count, and payments come out from 5.30am on the expiry day or when your data drops to 200MB, whichever comes first. As an example, the $4 discount is worth $52 a year across 13 recharges of 28 days. Buying an Unlimited Data Day on a weekend that unlimited data already covers is money wasted.

Optus Trade In, run by its partner Likewize, turns an old phone, tablet or smart watch into a Digital Prepaid Mastercard rather than an instant checkout discount.

• You get an online quote, then drop the device at an Optus store or post it free from your local post office with the emailed e-parcel label.

• The quote lasts 14 days, and a device that arrives later is requoted at the current price.

• The device must be in good working order with every lock removed, including Find My iPhone, and broken devices aren't accepted.

• If the inspected value is lower than quoted, you have 14 days to accept it or get the device back free, otherwise the lower value is processed.

• The card arrives by email within about 30 days, lasts 36 months and is capped at $1,000, so a bigger trade in comes as several cards.

Check the value with your IMEI number (dial *#06#) before upgrading. Boosted trade in offers run from time to time and values fall as models age, so time a working phone's trade in for one of those offers.

Flybuys members can earn bonus points on a new service on selected Choice Plus SIM plans, with more points on bigger plans, but only by signing up through the Flybuys and Optus portal. Orders through the regular website don't qualify.

Points land about 3 months after activation, are lost if the plan is cancelled first, and can't be combined with other offers unless the terms say so.
