Meet our expert

Since 2022, I’ve been a Senior Editor with CupoNation Australia, researching Kogan offers and checking discount codes so Australians can trust the savings.

If you shop on Kogan a lot, I’d suggest looking into Kogan FIRST. You will score free shipping on thousands of eligible items, access to exclusive deals, and even get in early on sales. It saves you money and makes your shopping so much easier every time.

About Kogan

Kogan.com spans TVs, tech, appliances, furniture, homewares, tools, pet supplies, pantry lines and travel gear, along with Kogan Mobile and Kogan Insurance. A large share of the range carries its own exclusive brands, including Kogan, Ovela and Fortis, which sit beside name brands and a Marketplace of independent sellers.

That mix shapes the after-sale costs. Change-of-mind returns run for 14 days on selected furniture, footwear, apparel and exclusive-brand items, refunded as Kogan.com credit minus the delivery charge. Marketplace sellers handle their own returns, with escalation to Kogan if they haven't offered a satisfactory resolution within three working days, so checking who's selling a listing before buying avoids surprises.

Kogan FAQs

Where to find Kogan's deepest markdowns online

Hot Deals and Clearance, filtered for value

Kogan's Hot Deals and Clearance sections are where the sharpest markdowns sit, across TVs, appliances, computers, furniture, fashion, gaming and more. Listings show the sale price against an SRP or RRP, and tags such as "Limited time only", "Selling fast" and "Clearance" give you a rough idea of how long a price may last.

Both pages get far more useful once you open the Filters panel. Tick "Sold by Kogan.com" to see only items Kogan sells itself, tick "Free shipping" to take freight out of the equation, and use the price bands or categories to cut thousands of listings down to what you actually need.

The "Sold by Kogan.com" filter matters more than it looks. Kogan notes on its sale pages that third party sellers may not apply its promotional discounts, so a sale price or a Kogan discount code is most dependable on items Kogan sells itself. The SRP is also Kogan's own reference price, so treat the percentage off as a starting point and compare the delivered price with one or two other Australian retailers before you commit.

Free shipping filter for bulky buys

Freight can quietly undo a good price on a fridge, TV or washing machine, which is why the "Free shipping" option in the Filters panel is worth ticking on search, category and sale pages. Kogan offers free shipping on thousands of products, and eligible listings are tagged with free shipping on the product tile.

There are limits. Free shipping doesn't apply to commercial or wholesale orders, and it only covers delivery within mainland Australia and Tasmania. Kogan also reserves the right not to ship to some remote or rural locations, so enter your postcode and check the delivery cost before you pay.

On a large appliance, the free shipping listing is often the better buy even when another one looks a few dollars cheaper. Compare the total at checkout rather than the ticket price, since the freight saved on a bulky item can easily outweigh a small Kogan coupon.

Kogan FIRST membership and whether it pays off

Member perks and what they cost

Kogan FIRST is Kogan's paid membership, and it bundles several savings into one fee. Here's what members get.

  • Free standard shipping applies to thousands of eligible FIRST products, and items that already ship free get a free upgrade to express.

  • Member only prices and Flash Deals appear across the range.

  • Members earn Kogan Rewards credit and double Qantas Points on eligible purchases.

  • A 5% everyday discount applies to a range of pantry and beverage items, although it can't be combined with other promotions.

  • FIRST Access gives members early entry to Kogan's biggest sale events.

  • Members get priority customer service and free entries into Kogan's giveaways.

Kogan also lists member offers on some of its own services, such as Kogan Mobile plans and Kogan Energy, so check the FIRST page for the current terms if you use them.

Membership costs $14.99 for 30 days, $39.99 a quarter or $129 a year. The annual plan wins if you'll stay all year, because twelve 30 day payments come to $179.88, so paying yearly saves $50.88.

Where it falls short is light use. Express and international postage aren't covered, non FIRST items in a mixed order still attract normal postage, and some postcodes in WA, the NT, Tasmania and regional NSW miss out on free shipping entirely. If you only buy one big item a year, the free trial or a one off delivery fee may cost you less.

Kogan Rewards credit for members

Kogan Rewards is the members' cashback, paid as Kogan.com credit. FIRST members earn between 1% and 2% back on eligible purchases, and the credit becomes redeemable once your balance reaches $10. It only builds while you're signed in with an active membership, and gift cards and precious metals don't earn it.

The catch is shelf life. Rewards credit expires after one year and also lapses if your membership ends, so cancelling FIRST with an unspent balance means losing it. Credit can be reversed, too, if you return the item that earned it.

At the 1% rate, a $500 order earns $5 in credit, so it takes around $1,000 of spending to reach the $10 redemption level. That makes Rewards a pleasant bonus for regular shoppers rather than a reason to join on its own. Plan to spend your balance before any renewal you don't intend to pay for.

Kogan Money credit card rewards on Kogan.com spending

The Kogan Money Credit Card, issued by NAB, has no annual fee and earns 2 points per dollar spent at Kogan.com and 1 point per dollar elsewhere. Every 1,000 points converts to $10 in Kogan.com credit, which works out to roughly 2% back on Kogan purchases.

Spend $1,000 at Kogan.com on the card, for example, and you'd earn 2,000 points, worth $20 in credit towards a later order. That return sits on top of any Kogan promo code or sale price you've used, because the points come from the card rather than the checkout. Cardholders can also split eligible purchases of $50 or more into instalment plans of up to 24 months.

The 2 point rate doesn't apply to Kogan Essentials such as energy or mobile bills, or to sister sites like Matt Blatt and Dick Smith. Kogan Money also runs sign up bonuses paid as Kogan.com credit, but these need a large minimum spend within a set period and change from time to time, so check the current offer before you apply. The rewards only add up if you clear the balance in full each month, as interest charges quickly outweigh a 2% return.

Kogan sales calendar and when to time big buys

Kogan runs a predictable cycle of sale events, so big purchases rarely need to happen at full price.

  • Click Frenzy brings online deals across tech and home categories.

  • The EOFY Sale lands in June, which suits anyone buying a laptop or office gear for work.

  • The 10-10 Sale is Kogan's own October event.

  • The Friday Sale usually starts in mid November and runs through to Cyber Monday, and Kogan FIRST members get early access before it opens to everyone.

  • The Christmas and Boxing Day sales carry the last big round of markdowns for the year.

  • FIRST-ival is a member only sale with deals across TVs, appliances, furniture and more.

To get ready, sign in before the sale starts, link your Qantas Frequent Flyer number and note the price of the items you want a few weeks ahead, so you can tell a genuine drop from a relabelled SRP. If FIRST early access appeals, time the 14 day free trial so it covers the early access window, since only one trial is allowed per person. A Kogan discount code may still work on top of some sale prices, but read its terms first, as marked down items can be excluded.

More ways to save at Kogan.com

Free Kogan account perks

A free Kogan.com account is the base for most savings on the site. Only account holders can redeem eVouchers and use Kogan Credit, and signing up adds you to Kogan's marketing list, which promises access to more deals, specials and giveaways. Your account also tracks deliveries, stores invoices and keeps your order history in one place.

Signing up isn't the same as joining FIRST, and there's no guaranteed welcome credit. Treat the emails as an early warning for sale events, and if the volume becomes too much, change how often you hear from Kogan rather than unsubscribing altogether, so you don't miss the next Kogan coupon or sale alert.

Link Qantas Frequent Flyer before you buy

Linking your Qantas Frequent Flyer number to your Kogan.com account earns 1 Qantas Point for every $2 spent on eligible products, or 1 point per $1 for Kogan FIRST members. Points are calculated on spend rounded down to the nearest dollar, and nothing is earned on delivery fees.

Timing is the trap. Points only apply to orders placed after you link your number while signed in, and past purchases can't be claimed, so link it before a big sale rather than after. Gift cards, FIRST subscriptions and Kogan's essential services don't earn points, and neither do orders paid entirely by gift card. Allow up to 60 days for points to land in your Frequent Flyer account.

Shopping through the Kogan.com app

The Kogan.com Shopping App lets you save delivery addresses and payment details, follow an order from purchase to delivery and contact Customer Care about returns or invoices without hunting through the website. Kogan has also offered a discount on your first app purchase above a minimum spend, so check the app's offer terms before placing your first order there.

That first order discount is best saved for a larger purchase you were already planning, rather than spent on a small item just to clear the minimum.

Kogan.com eGift Cards and the points they miss

Kogan.com eGift Cards come in $20, $50, $100 and $500 values and arrive by email, which makes them a handy last minute present for someone who'd rather pick their own tech or homewares.

There's a points cost to keep in mind. Buying a gift card earns no Qantas Points or Kogan Rewards credit, and an order paid entirely by gift card earns no Qantas Points either. If points matter to you, avoid covering a large order with a gift card alone.
