Hostelworld discount codes and promo codes in November 2026
Get verified Hostelworld coupons and the latest vouchers to help you save
At CupoNation Australia, I’ve been working as an Editor since 2023, updating Hostelworld offers and verifying discount codes several times per week. I make sure Australians can trust the savings listed here.
One tip I recommend is to search with flexible dates. Shifting your check-in or check-out by just one day often brings up lower nightly rates, which aren’t always obvious unless you adjust the calendar manually.
Founded in 1999, Hostelworld has grown into a booking platform for budget-friendly accommodation, listing hostels, hotels and B&Bs in more than 180 countries. Guest ratings and reviews sit on every property page, which makes it easier to judge value before you pay a deposit.
Its social side sets it apart from general booking sites. More than 3 million members use the app's hostel and city chats to meet other travellers, and the company also runs the Hoscars, its own hostel awards.
Each property shows its rate types before you book, and the one you pick decides whether a change of plans leaves you with a refund, a voucher or nothing at all.
Free Cancellation refunds your deposit in full if you cancel online through your account before the deadline on your confirmation email. That's usually 24 hours before check-in, in the property's local time, and refunds take up to 10 working days.
Standard Flexible adds a small fee. Cancel in time and your deposit comes back as a voucher in your account rather than cash, valid for 6 months, and the fee itself isn't refunded.
Based on our research, Free Cancellation is the better default whenever a property offers it, since you get real money back at no extra cost. Standard Flexible earns its fee when the hostel you want has no Free Cancellation rate and you're likely to book with Hostelworld again within six months.
Non-Flexible rates keep your deposit if you cancel. Non-Refundable rates are usually the cheapest, but the property can charge the full stay any time after you book, even if you later cancel.
These rates suit fixed plans, such as a stay that lines up with flights you've already paid for. A Hostelworld coupon still works on both, though not on Pay Now rates, so a code on top of the lowest rate gives the best price when your dates can't move. If there's any chance they will, the small saving rarely covers a lost deposit.
Find the same booking cheaper on another website and Hostelworld refunds the difference by bank transfer. The claim has to go in within 24 hours of booking, through the Best Price Guarantee Claim Form.
The other deal must still be bookable online when you claim, so it can be verified.
It must match the property, room type, dates and room conditions, including meal plan and cancellation policy.
Package deals, blind bookings, membership or loyalty rates, rewards programmes and special promotions don't qualify.
Group bookings made offline aren't covered.
The refund is processed only after you've checked out and the stay has been verified, and it can take up to 14 days from checkout.
Because conditions have to match, a cheaper Non-Refundable rate elsewhere doesn't count against a Free Cancellation booking here. The guarantee is most useful on bookings you're already sure about, since the 24 hour window closes fast.
Unlike a Hostelworld coupon, which takes a percentage off, a voucher is credit in your account, such as the deposit returned from a cancelled Standard Flexible booking. It applies automatically when you book while logged in with the same email address, but only to the deposit (the Payable Now amount), never the balance you pay the property.
Vouchers are valid for 6 months from the date they're issued.
They can't pay the Standard Flexible fee or Pay Now rates.
Any unused balance stays in your account for your next booking.
Deposits are usually 15 to 20% of the total, so a large voucher can take a few bookings to use up. Booking every stop of a multi-city trip through the same account is the quickest way to spend it before the six months run out.
Verify your student status through Student Beans to get 10% off hostel bookings. The code goes in at checkout like any other.
Student Beans also lists student pricing on the Social Pass, with 20% off the one month pass and 25% off the three month and one year passes. The one week pass has no discount.
Since each code works once, save it for the longest stay of your trip, where 10% comes off the biggest booking.
The sign-up box near the bottom of the homepage adds you to the email list for travel tips and offers. Any Hostelworld discount code sent this way carries its own expiry date and can't be added to a booking after it's confirmed.
Based on our research, signing up a few weeks before you start planning gives you the best chance of an offer landing before you book rather than straight after.
Roamies is a small group tour range run by Hostelworld and G Adventures for travellers aged 18 to 35. You travel with 16 to 24 other travellers, stay in sociable hostels and have local guides sort out the planning and transport. A $250 deposit holds your spot.
Most trips are in Southeast Asia, with a few in Europe and Central and South America. They suit first-time solo travellers who'd rather not plan every leg, and extra nights before or after the tour can be booked on the site, where a Hostelworld promo code still applies to the hostel stay.
