At CupoNation Australia, I’ve been a Senior Editor since 2022, where I regularly update Hotels.com promotions and check offers for reliability. My role is to make travel savings straightforward for you.
When using Hotels.com, I suggest choosing properties that offer free cancellation and noting the exact cancellation cut off, as it varies by property. This flexibility lets you lock in a price early and rebook if the rate drops, helping you secure better value without losing peace of mind. Sharing tactics like this is how I maintain this page.
Alongside hotels, Hotels.com lists holiday homes, serviced apartments, motels and aparthotels for leisure and business travellers, plus car hire. It belongs to Expedia Group, and its rewards balance can also be used with participating Expedia Group brands.
Rewards members earn 10% of each eligible night's value as Hotels.comCash, released once 10 nights are completed. Eligible holiday rental nights count as well, so a family rental builds credit at the same rate as a hotel stay.
Hotels.comCash can only be redeemed on Pay Now bookings, not Pay Later ones. Members planning to spend their balance should pick the prepaid rate when comparing room options.

Hotels.com Rewards is free to join and pays you back in Hotels.comCash, where every $1 is worth $1 off a future booking. Your reward is based on what you actually spend, not a set free night.
Each eligible night earns 10% of its value in Hotels.comCash, excluding taxes and fees.
Your Hotels.comCash stays pending until you complete 10 eligible nights, then becomes available to spend.
You can spend all or part of your balance on one night or several, and anything left over stays in your account.
It can be spent on Pay Now hotels and participating holiday rentals, including the taxes and fees charged at booking.
It can't be used on Pay Later bookings, car hire or packages, or with a buy now, pay later payment method.
If your balance doesn't cover the whole booking, the rest must go on a credit or debit card, so have one ready even if you usually pay another way.
Available Hotels.comCash doesn't expire as long as you make an eligible booking or redemption at least once every 18 months.
Pending Hotels.comCash and completed nights stay active as long as you have some Hotels.com activity at least once every 12 months.
As an example, 10 eligible nights totalling $1,800 before taxes and fees earn $180, while 10 nights totalling $900 earn $90. Pricier city stays build your balance far faster than budget motels for the same 10 nights, so book your own, your partner's and family stays through the one signed in account to pool them into one balance.
Everyone starts on Blue, which gives you Member Prices on selected hotels and dates. Silver takes 5 qualifying nights in a calendar year (1 January to 31 December), Gold takes 15 and Platinum takes 30. There's no minimum booking value for a night to count, so a cheap motel night moves you up just as much as a pricey city hotel. Nights paid fully or partly with Hotels.comCash still count towards your tier, even though they don't earn new Hotels.comCash.
Silver, Gold and Platinum members get bigger savings on Member Prices plus extra benefits, including perks at participating VIP Access properties.
A tier lasts for the rest of the year you earn it, the whole of the next calendar year and until 28 February the year after. If you're a night or two short of Silver or Gold in December, a short stay before 31 December buys that tier's benefits for well over a year instead of restarting the climb in January.
You only earn on bookings made while signed in, and stays booked before you created your account don't count, so join before you book. Car hire, gift card purchases, group bookings and change or cancellation fees don't earn.
Any night paid fully or partly with a coupon, a gift card or Hotels.comCash doesn't count towards your 10 nights, and Hotels.comCash generally can't be combined with coupons or gift cards on the same booking. As an example, a Hotels.com coupon worth 8% on a $500 stay (before taxes and fees) saves $40 today, while booking without it earns $50 in Hotels.comCash plus progress towards your 10 nights. A coupon worth less than 10% is usually the weaker long term deal, especially when you're close to your 10th night.
Sign in to your free account before you search. Rewards members and app users get Member Prices on selected hotels and dates, and these prices only show when they apply to your search, so browsing as a guest can hide them.
Member Prices are the easiest discount on the site, because you don't need a Hotels.com discount code and those nights still earn Hotels.comCash. Judge each Member Price on the total once taxes and fees are added, since the nightly rate shown in search results can leave out a fair share of what you'll pay.
App users see Member Prices too, and every eligible night booked while signed in to the app counts towards your 10 nights, as on the website. A Hotels.com discount code goes into the same "Apply a coupon" field at checkout.
Managing changes and cancellations yourself through Trips in the app is usually quicker than waiting for an agent, so you can rebook straight away when you spot a better rate.
Hotels.com's last minute deals page lists more than 20,000 offers each week, handy for a free weekend or a short notice trip. Hotels with rooms left to fill close to the date often drop their prices, so a search a few days out can pay off.
Test whether a Hotels.com coupon code applies on top at checkout, and check the cancellation policy first. Some last minute rates are non refundable, and a cheap room you can't use isn't a saving.
Hotels.com calls its Friday Sale its biggest sale of the year. It usually runs in late November across the Friday Sale weekend, Cyber Monday and Travel Tuesday, with discounted hotel deals and Member Prices on stays for the months ahead. It's the time to book trips you already know you'll take over summer, the school holidays or Easter.
Sign in to your account and the app before the sale starts, so Member Prices show straight away.
Shortlist your destinations, dates and two or three hotels in advance so you can compare quickly.
Note each hotel's usual price a few weeks before the sale, so you can tell a real discount from a normal rate.
Choose sale rates with free cancellation where you can, so you can rebook if the price falls further.
Test any Hotels.com coupon released around the sale against the sale price at checkout.
Sale rates mostly suit stays planned months ahead, so outside late November the last minute deals page is the better bet for short notice trips.
Hotels.comCash is applied automatically and spread evenly across every night of a booking, based on the average nightly cost including taxes and fees. Any night it touches stops counting towards your next 10 nights. As an example, a $60 balance used on a seven night trip means none of those seven nights earn Hotels.comCash.
Make a separate short stay, such as a single night, your redemption booking and pay for the longer trip on its own booking. Your balance does the same job either way, but only the separate booking lets the long trip keep earning.
